If you do not know which size Baader filter you should get for your particular telescope or binoculars, please access this chart  which gives size recommendations for Baader Filter Material.

This film outperforms most other solar filter material, and is much less expensive than other filters.  It comes mounted in a cardboard frame, ready for you to construct an end-cap according to the diameter of your telescope or binocular main objective housing.
The solar image appears bluish-white in color rather than orange, but the image is highly detailed.  There is great contrast between the black sky background and the solar disc.  Faint details like faculae and granulation are visible even with 60 mm refractors.

Iconel

Baader

Baader
Artificial
Color

Iconel filters give a burnt-orange image, but the natural Baader image may be colorized in your graphics program if you don't like the pale bluish cast.  The artificially colored Baader image that you see here was done in Adobe Photoshop.  Detail of sunspots and granulation is much more defined in the Baader image, and being a film, it is lightweight and not subject to breakage.

You may not need as large a piece as you think...too much light gathering may wash out your image, especially if you are taking solar photos.
If you have any questions about which Baader Filter would be appropriate for your telescope, please refer to the Frequently Asked Questions page.

Diagrams for construction of end-cap mountings may be viewed HERE for telescope mounts and HERE for binocular mounts.

Please note that Baader solar film is subject to having creases and small dents that have no effect on the film's performance.  It should be mounted loosely, and not stretched tightly.
Mounted film is checked against the sun before shipment to avoid any chance of pinholes or slits.

IMPORTANT NOTE ON PAYMENT SCHEDULING:

If you order the day before an event, even with "overnight delivery,"
there is a very good chance that you will not receive your order in time
to use the material for the event.  PayPal must process the payment before
it sends the notice that payment is made.  That is often received the day
after the payment was actually made through PayPal.  If the order is sent
the day before the event, the payment will not be received until the day of
the event, and by that time, there is no way the order can be delivered to
the Post Office, and be delivered the same day that it was posted.

Brian from Hawaii Writes:

I live on the Big Island of Hawaii, and work on the summit of Mauna Kea . I was looking for a safe, high quality filter, economical filter. I choose the Baader  Solar Viewers, with 1” film openings.  I ordered on the 30th, you shipped on the 31st, they arrived on Monday the 4th, awesome. Today, Tuesday morning I made 2 covers, one each for my 105mm and 70-300mm Nikkor lenses. I did test shots on Monday using the eyeglass viewers provided by NASA, they looked orange, as we think the Sun is. The images with the Baader film was white, like NASA’s white light filtered camera. I was very pleased with my shots, all images were sharp. My best shot looks like I did a screen capture of the live NASA webcast.

Daniel F. from Virginia Writes:

Received my solar filter today and even had time to put together a cell for it and try it out in my 8" dob. Works great, I saw some beautiful sunspots and even managed to catch some nice views of granulation. I'm looking forward to trying it again tomorrow when the sun is higher in the sky. For $10 this was a great buy, you've got my recommendation to anyone who asks!

Dennis E from Florida Writes:

I want to thank you for the prompt service and excellent quality of the solar filters. I fitted them onto my 20 x 60 binoculars and now my kids are the only ones on the block to have ever seen sunspots. We are now tracking them on a daily basis and I am pleased to have found a solution to do this for LESS THAN TEN DOLLARS!

thanks again...

Aaron I. from California Writes:

I had heard Baader filters were good, but wasn't sure what to expect. Now that I own one, I can say, there's no hype. Don't be fooled, it may look like aluminized mylar but it's a world apart. In image quality, Baader wins hands down (never liked those fuzzy blue images). I think it beats the pricey glass filters too. In comparison, the Baader images are sharp, detailed, with lots of contrast: I can see smaller sunspots and for the first time lots of gorgeous detail in the penumbrae around the big sunspots, as well as granulation near the limb; and the background is nice and black. All in all, a very pleasant surprise! To be honest, I bought this filter because I'm on a wait-list for an H-alpha filter, but now I won't have to wait to see a lot of interesting detail on the sun. Again, thanks for making this material available at such a reasonable price.

Scott K. from Arizona Writes:

Hello DP,
I just wanted to let you know how impressed I am with the Baader personal viewers and (2) 1.5's I received yesterday. I only ordered them a little over a week ago and already they've shown up well packaged and with a nice set of instructions. They work great and I can't wait to use them for my yearly solar presentation to a kindergarten class. I've almost completed the cells to use the 1.5's on my Oberwerk 20 X 80's. What a great product and what a fantastic company that offers it. I'm blown away by the quality and service. Thanks again! You've got a customer for life.
